For superior quality prints, printers should be assembled with sophisticated print heads filled with high quality inks. Inks are colored liquids that are used to print onto substrates like paper, fabric, glass, metal boxes etc. These inks may be black, white or colorful. Basically inks are made up of four components namely pigments, solvents, additives and resins.

Pigments or dyes form the most important component of ink. It gives color to the ink making it opaque in nature. Pigments are obtained naturally from plants or minerals or are manufactured chemically. Dyes dissolve completely with ink while pigments remain suspended in the ink.

Resins are basically binders. They are responsible for binding all the components together to form ink. They are also bound to make the ink remain stick to the printing medium. They also assign to the properties like gloss, heat and water resistance etc.

Solvents are the liquids which are responsible for dissolution of the pigment or dye. It keeps the ink in liquid form till the time it is transferred to the printing medium. Once the ink settles on the medium it binds to the surface and dries. A solvent can be water based or it can be oil or alcohol based.

Additives are generally used to give final alterations to the printing ink. These are used to keep a check over some of the issues while ink manufacturing. They improve the easy-flow of ink, their appearance and adhesion. Various additives are recommended depending upon the use of printing ink. They attribute to the physical properties of ink to adhere to different situations.

Ink manufacturing
Ink manufacturing is a daunting process which requires correct adhesiveness, viscosity, gravity and thermal balance. The process includes broadly two steps. Firstly the resins, solvents and additives are mixed homogenously at relatively high temperatures to form mixtures called varnish. Secondly, the colored particles called pigments are mixed with the varnish evenly breaking lumps if any and spread the pigment molecules uniformly throughout the ink.

All the parameters are strictly taken into account to produce a superior quality ink. Once the printing ink is manufactured they are filled in suitable cartridges and are ready to use with printers for printing. Many printer ink manufacturers are doing extensive research to come up with newer technologies to produce better inks
Epson printer inks are one such superior ink manufacturer. They are consistently striving to develop clog-free and smudge-free ink with radiant colors and sharp text. They provide high capacity ink cartridges to attain high volume printing. Epson ink cartridges are one of the optimum solutions for bulk and excellent printing.
Investing in Epson printer inks and cartridges is a promise of consistent and excellent printing.
